Teaching Approach

My primary goal in teaching is both to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of sociological theory and to actively involve them in research processes, fostering solid methodological skills. I guide students in analyzing digitalization and socio-technical innovations as intertwined processes of societal transformation, emphasizing the integration of theoretical insights, practice-oriented research, and critical reflection.

I teach a wide range of topics, often focusing on questions about how digitalization, science, and technology transform society (and vice versa)—from embodied experiences and human-machine interactions (e.g., wearable tech, biomedical innovations, craftsmanship) to structural changes in various social spheres such as medicine, work, and organizations.

Students also learn to think outside the box, analyzing these changes from diverse theoretical perspectives, including STS, feminist technoscience, and materialist approaches. Courses blend theory, case studies, and participatory research, centering questions of power, equity, and interdisciplinary curiosity.

In my teaching, I emphasize:

  • Interdisciplinary dialogue between sociology, STS, and related fields, illustrated through practical case studies (e.g., AI in healthcare, additive manufacturing/3D printing, automation in manufacturing).

  • Participatory methods, ranging from collaborative projects to ethnographic engagements, to foster concrete experiences with socio-technical transformations and controversies.

  • Inclusive and collaborative learning, encouraging diverse perspectives that critically challenge established power structures in technology and knowledge production.
