My Article on 3D Printing and Socio-Technical Futures Has Been Published

I am very happy to share that my Turkish article — “Üç boyutlu baskı ve toplumsal gücü: Olanak sağlamak, merkeziyetsizleştirme ve sosyo-teknik çözümler” — has been published in BM Dergi, the official journal of the Turkish Chamber of Computer Engineers (Bilgisayar Mühendisleri Odası).

Publishing this piece in a Turkish engineering journal means a lot to me, because it creates a dialogue between social science perspectives and engineering communities. In the article, I discuss how 3D printing is not only a technical innovation but also a socio-technical process that reshapes production, participation, and regulatory debates.

Drawing on examples from medical innovation and decentralized maker networks such as e-NABLE, the text explores how technologies become meaningful through collaboration among engineers, families, children, and civil society actors. These practices show that enabling technologies are always negotiated — technically, socially, and politically.

I am particularly proud to contribute to discussions in Türkiye by writing in Turkish and bringing STS perspectives into conversations about innovation, accessibility, and participatory technology development.

If you read Turkish, I would be very happy to hear your thoughts and feedback.
