I’m very happy to be heading to Prague soon for the GWMT Annual Conference “Epistemic Passages: Knowledge in Translation”, taking place from 9–11 September 2026.

I’m really delighted about the invitation and very much looking forward to the conference and the discussions in Prague. The overarching theme of knowledge in translation resonates strongly with questions that also concern my own work: how knowledge moves between different contexts, disciplines, technologies, and actors… and how it is transformed in these processes. This also raises questions about what happens when knowledge moves between academic and non-academic settings and when non-experts become actively involved in knowledge production.

On 10 September, 11:30–13:00, I will join the plenary roundtable “Citizen Science: Histories, Promises and Challenges” as a panel discussant at the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Together with Eva Nováková (Institute of Geonics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Czech and Slovak Citizen Science Platform) and Stephanie Weissmann (Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe, GWZO), and chaired by Michal Frankl (Head of “Knowledge and Participation,” Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe, GWZO) we will discuss citizen science beyond data collection, including questions of shared authority and co-authorship, the involvement of marginalised groups, trust in expert knowledge, and the promises and challenges of democratising science.

I’m particularly looking forward to discussing these questions from different disciplinary and historical perspectives, and to thinking about citizen science itself as a form of knowledge in translation.
