As a member of the DFG network “Dis-/Abilities and Digital Media” (DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft/German Research Foundation, project number 439948242), I am pleased to share that, after many years of collaboration within our network, our edited volume has now been published:
Edited by Robert Stock, Christian Meier zu Verl, Melike Şahinol, Markus Spöhrer, Axel Volmar, Andreas Wagenknecht, and Anna-Lena Wiechern
Springer VS, 2025.
DOI: https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-658-46724-1
This edited volume examines the relationship between digital media and disability across 12 chapters from an interdisciplinary perspective. Disability is treated as a phenomenon experienced subjectively and situated socially and historically. The contributions cover various case studies, both current and historical, including topics in technological innovation, activist practices, and digital accessibility issues.
This volume provides a detailed introduction to the field of research and outlines the current state of the discussion regarding dis/ability and digital media. It is intended for researchers and practitioners in science, education, technology development, and social work who are interested in examining the interactions between disability, society, and digital technologies.
We appreciate everyone’s contributions, especially the reviewers for their valuable and constructive feedback, which has been instrumental in further improving the quality and depth of the contributions. We look forward to future discussions and further input from the community!
